Position Purpose:
Under direct supervision and working in a team environment this position provides for the daily personal physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs, activities of daily living and comfort of our residents in accordance with our established policies, procedures and team standards.
As a Residential Care Resident Assistant you can expect to:
  • Resident Assistant grooms and provides all other personal care to residents as needed so that clothing, hair and overall appearance are clean and presentable.
  • Resident Assistant provides medication reminders to residents as requested by health services team.
  • Resident Assistant responds promptly to all emergency pendant alarms during scheduled hours. Reports malfunctioning batteries immediately.
  • Resident Assistant ensures residents’ nutritional needs are satisfied by assisting with light meal preparation as needed or as requested by resident or health services team.
  • Resident Assistant encourages residents to participate in scheduled activities. Escorts residents to activities and assists in conducting/leading activities.
  • Resident Assistant maintains a clean, safe and inviting living environment for residents by keeping rooms free of clutter, soiled items, debris and odor.
  • Resident Assistant follows facility policies and procedures for infection control by practicing standard precautions and following OSHA guidelines for handling blood and other potentially infectious materials.
  • Resident Assistant handles all soiled and/or bio-hazardous items in an appropriate manner to avoid contamination.
  • Using our computerized medical records systems, documents care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Resident Assistant ensures that the nurse is notified in a timely manner of changes in resident condition, family and/or resident concerns, malfunctioning equipment, material shortages, and other pertinent observations.
  • Resident Assistant conducts inspections as needed/as directed by the Director of Nursing or Neighborhood Nurse Leader, i.e., mattress inspection for Residential Care Facility. Maintains log of inspections as needed.
  • Resident Assistant attends all team meetings which occur when on duty and other mandatory in-services.
  • Resident Assistant completes the 12 hours of annual in-service training required to maintain state certification.
  • Resident Assistant maintains competency in all additional areas of skills training.
  • Resident Assistant as an ERS team member, upholds the philosophy of Person-Centered Care while performing duties; whenever possible acts to restore and/or provide Purpose, Choice and Freedom to our residents
  • Resident Assistant provides outstanding customer service to all customers in accordance with ERS’s expectations and values.
  • Resident Assistant adheres to all of ERS’s policies and procedures including our safety and Corporate Compliance programs.
  • Resident Assistant maintains confidentiality of a resident’s pertinent health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Resident Assistant promotes resident safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program
  • Have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to lift, push, pull or move 50 lbs on a regular basis and 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Have the ability to relate to and work effectively with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility and to remain calm in emotionally charged situation.
  • Have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively in the English language.
  • Have the ability to see and hear, with or without reasonable accommodation, so that the essential functions of this position may be fully met.
  • Have the ability to sit, stoop, bend, and move continuously throughout the day.
  • Have the ability to maintain an attendance record which falls within the guidelines of the company’s attendance policy.
  • Is involved with residents, family members, staff members, visitors, etc., under all conditions/circumstances and may be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
  • Be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel as well as be willing to communicate with residents based at whatever behavior or acuity level they are currently functioning.
  • Have knowledge and competencies for age specific interventions.
  • Be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccination.
