Job Description

Expected Starting Salary: 62.63 - 81.38

The Sr. Director, Public Relations will lead the external communication strategy, with a focus on influencing local, regional and national reputation. This position will provide oversight to patient and family communications, social media and media relations. They will develop, implement, measure and evaluate our approaches to each of these key areas and enable continuous improvement in support of the organization's goals and vision.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

•Strategy
Create a vision and roadmap in partnership with department leadership that provides direction for the external communication strategy, with a focus on influencing local, regional and national reputation. Provide oversight of the patient and family communication strategy, including the development, implementation and evaluation of new channels. Provide oversight for social media and proactive and reactive media relations efforts. Develop, implement, measure and evaluate approaches to each of these key areas and work with department leadership to report back and continuously improve.

•Planning and Execution
Advance CCHMCs perception and reputation through strategic communication practices to key external audiences. Seek out, implement, and evaluate new media channels to advance system reputation and make recommendations of the same. Regularly evaluate the media relations efforts and actively report results to key clients and stakeholders. Manage proactive and reactive social media communications and report / align with leadership. Serve as a back up to the manager of media relations and a backup public information officer or organizational spokesperson. Fluently translate an intricate, matrixed healthcare environment to a variety of audiences. Develop proactive plans and contribute to overall content strategy leadership and execution. Regularly report highly visible media outcomes to executive leadership. Develop, manage, share and regularly improve "About CCHMC" materials for use sharing the story of CCHMC. Help develop an inclusive culture where each employee feels valued, committed to excellence, and is fully prepared to provide exceptional care and a great experience for patients, their families and our communities.

•Project Management
Provide leadership for direction, coordination, implementation, execution, and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with organizational strategies and communication frameworks. May manage the project budget. Develop project plans, resource allocation, and timeline. Manager the day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. May direct assigned project team ensuring effective utilization of resources. Reports on progress of the project to all stakeholders. Provides detailed communication plans to demonstrate the impact to clinical and research operations.

•People Planning & Performance
Creates a vision and roadmap for the team that provides direction and alignment of priorities with tactical and strategic objectives of the department and organization. Delegates responsibilities to reporting personnel; establish clear lines of responsibility and accountability. Elevates team members thinking and understanding of Institutional strategies and growth plans by infusing best practice knowledge into the work. Leads the selection, development, mentoring and coaching of direct and indirect reports.

•Fiscal Management
In collaboration with leadership, develop, implement and evaluate the department's marketing and media budget to achieve the organizational and departmental objectives. Recommend support budgets to meet departmental needs. Implement solutions and accountable for compliance with organizational financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:
•Bachelor's Degree in related field
•10 yrs of related experience in a highly matrixed organization; experience managing teams

-Experience developing strategic, integrated communication plans

-Proven experience using data to inform decision making

Preferred:
-Crisis communication experience (both planning and response)

- Proven experience in developing, implementing, measuring and consistently improving public relations programs on a multi-state and/or national scale
