Job Description

This position will support the Marketing & Brand Strategy division by effectively planning and executing agency milestone events in coordination with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen Great Parks’ position in the community. They will also research and recommend external community events and sponsorship opportunities to elevate Great Parks’ presence in the community. Will assist in the development of target audience groups to generate excitement and engagement with the park district. This position will also act as a media liaison to assist in scheduling interviews with Great Parks subject matter experts.

The successful candidate will:

  • Promotes Great Parks’ mission, programs, events, and services through the development and application of communication and promotional programs and advertising campaigns.
  • Sources and manages an inventory of giveaways and promotional items for internal and external Great Parks events and engagements.
  • Coordinates external community events and engagement opportunities to increase the visibility of Great Parks in the region. This may include, but is not limited to, parades, festivals, and expos.
  • Manages the full execution of external events from start to finish, including attendance of events, event registration, coordinating resources, establishing timelines, and engaging staff as needed.
  • Plans, produces, and executes Great Parks' milestone events such as ribbon cuttings, grand openings, groundbreakings, partnership events, and celebrations. Works with key internal and external stakeholders to establish goals and strategy of events.
  • Coordinates outreach strategy that ensures the engagement of residents and park stakeholders.
  • Leads Great Parks’ outreach events, including researching and selecting key opportunities, organizing logistics, and measuring effectiveness. Builds community relationships through listening sessions, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinates media engagements in partnership with Great Parks subject matter experts and Great Parks public relations consultant.
  • Collaborates on segment ideas and contributes to press release development in partnership with Great Parks public relations consultant and internal subject matter experts.
  • Assists in the development of copy for public facing materials such as brochures, press releases, and annual reports. Provides occasional copy-editing support to marketing and brand strategy team.
  • Organizes and maintains an active list of all Great Parks external event participation and sponsorships to ensure a strategic and united approach across our organization.
  • Manages and maintains outreach resources, including ordering inventory of promotional products and event supplies such as tablecloths and tents.
  • Manages vendor support and relationship. Also manages equitable delivery and distribution of promotional items throughout Great Parks and the community.
  • Performs other writing tasks such as preparing reports, material for public appearances and presentations and, on an as-needed basis, for Great Parks’ publications, online calendar, social media, website and newsletters.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with media, key community partners, and vendors.
  • Incorporates new technologies to ensure Great Parks is reaching all audiences effectively.
  • Represents Great Parks at various events, meetings, and public appearances.
  • Monitors and reports on media coverage through media monitoring tools and continuously assesses the effectiveness of media outreach in collaboration with public relations consultant.
  • Monitors industry press to identify relevant trends and news angles and collaborates with key external/internal contacts to elevate Great Parks recognition in the region.
  • Takes photos or videos as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify the applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in marketing, community relations, and/or public relations.
  • Event planning and organization experience from start to finish.
  • Managing competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and the ability to be creative and technical with writing.
  • Speaking effectively before groups
  • Experience with copy editing, photography videography

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

LICENSE OF CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines.

Typical starting salary range for the position will be $23.30/hour ($48,464.00 annually) - $27.88/hour ($58,000.00 annually) depending on experience.
