Summary of Responsibilities:

Manages the planning, organizing and directing of Human Resources’ activities in support of assigned business unit(s). Acts as business partner with business units to maximize human resource assets in the areas of employment, compensation, associate relations and performance management. Conducts Guilford Institute training programs for associate development. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible to make an established range of decisions, escalating to manager when necessary and updates manager on a regular basis.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Works with business unit partners to identify human resource needs, developing and implementing solutions to achieve business objectives.

  • Analyzes human resource assets within each operation. Works with all managers to identify associate strengths and areas for development. Consults with managers on development of individual associate action plans to improve skill level and performance. Coaches managers to work with associates to implement plans.

  • Counsels with managers and associates to resolve work issues and maintain a positive pro-active associate relation's climate. Reviews and approves all associate corrective counseling, probation and terminations. Promotes team atmosphere with managers and associates.

  • Ensures associate relations climate is designed and managed to deliver on the culture principles of the organization.

  • Administers compensation program for divisions. Assists in budget development plan and managing the annual incentive program for each business unit. Reviews and approves all merit, promotion and demotion requests. Works closely with recruiters to facilitate the filling of all open positions within assigned business unit(s). Conducts exit interviews and provides feedback to managers. Coaches managers on retention strategies.

  • Conducts Guilford Institute training programs that promote associate skill development for managers and associates. Assists with the revision of current training programs and in reviewing various training programs being considered for the Guilford curriculum.

  • Keeps informed of latest developments in human resources field. Provides guidance and counseling to divisions in areas related to human resources. Informs Assistant Vice President, Human Resources of human resource issues and activities in assigned areas.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria:

  • Substantial, progressive HR generalist experience to include, but not limited to, organization development, employee relations, succession management, training, performance management and compensation. Proven experience defining employee relations’ problems and issues, collecting information and proposing acceptable resolutions.

  • Thorough knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures as well as applicable HR laws at the state and federal levels.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and driving an associate relations climate that delivers on the culture principles of the organization.

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership skills providing direction to guiding, influencing and motivating individuals and teams a recommended course of action. Demonstrated strong project management skills and proven experience having developed, organized, executed and led projects to a successful completion and attainment of set goals.

  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and consultative communication skills with the ability to interpret successfully and communicate business needs between internal and external groups in a clear, focused and concisemanner. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and professionally and communicate with all levels of staff and management.

  • Proven strategic, analytical and creative-thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation toward the achievement of goals and objectives.

  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills. Can cite examples of organization and time management/methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands for self and others.

  • Proven strong analytical skills to include demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions. Proven analytical skills necessary to understand, monitor and manage statistical data in support of goal/mission success. Must cite examples from work experience on identifying complex problems, quantifying the problem and providing applicable, equitable and legally defensible resolutions.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively within a team, possessing a strong customer focus and work ethic.

  • Proven experience adapting and demonstrating flexibility associated with changes to policies/procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving problems where independent decision-making, creativity in problem resolution and self-initiative were demonstrated. Must provide examples of strong negotiating skills to resolve problems.

Work Setting:

  • This position works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings. Position requires substantial movement of wrists, hands and fingers for continuous computer work.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or relevant course of study.

Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required:

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications.

Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):

  • None required.

Position Demands:

  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects.
