Job Description
We are currently seeking a Controller with not-for-profit experience to play a critical role in advancing the goals and initiatives of the Chamber and the Chamber Foundation. The Controller will be a CPA, a self-starter, possess high drive, and take ownership and accountability.
As the Controller, you will support core finance and accounting processes for the Chamber and its affiliates, such as accounting processes, compliance, financial reporting, budgeting, and some operations such as insurance and risk management. This position is best suited for an individual with strong attention to detail, preference for technical analysis, and an analytical thinker with a robust finance and accounting background in the not-for-profit sector. This position reports to the Chief Finance Officer.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Ensures the completion of month-end close activities
- Delivers accurate month-end financial statements by providing timely and accurate analysis of actual monthly results, budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
- Ensures effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Manages financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting for the Company.
- Coordinating activities of external auditors
- Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
- Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Related Field
- CPA certification strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting and/or financial management experience
- 5+ years of non-profit experience
- Excellent leadership skills including effective communication skills, strong problem-solving skills and they to employ sound decisioning process based on previous work experience.
