Job Description

We are looking for an Sr. Engineering Manager of New Product Design to join our Innovation team. This role has responsibility of leading a team of engineers through design and execution phases on a broad range of moderate to complex projects associated with our roster of Consumer Product brands, which include:

  • Coleman outdoor fuel

  • Bernzomatic and Mag Tools Torches and Fuel

  • General Tools precision tools

  • Garden Weasel lawn and garden tools and accessories

  • Level5 drywall and masonry tools

  • Halo grills, griddles and pizza ovens

Projects include: new to the world innovation leveraging unique designs and technology; product enhancements; and cost reductions. This leader will help drive speed to market and quality improvements through a Stage Gate process. They will mentor current Engineers and help recruit new talent to continue building our technical expertise within the Engineering function. They will work closely with other Innovation functions, such as Industrial Design, Consumer Insights and Project Management. They will also be the key technical communicator to other functions in the organization such as Commercial, Marketing, Finance, IT, Operations, EH&S, QC, Supply Chain, Regulatory and other applicable personnel and groups as necessary to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of product development engineers.

  • Design & develop new products through the new product development process.

  • Define and clarify project scope goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with key stakeholders. Proactively manage changes in project scope.

  • Develop technical roadmaps, project timelines, budget and milestones.

  • Develop policies and procedures to support the achievement of the project objectives.

  • Estimate resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.

  • Define project baselines and track project progress, milestones, and deliverables.

  • Deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.

  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.

Desired Experience

  • Innovation/Product Development experience in Consumer Products is highly desired.

  • Mechanical Engineering background highly desired, with an advanced degree a plus.

  • Leading technical resources through Product Development process.

  • Collaborating with both in-house manufacturing and contract manufacturing.

  • Presenting technical information to non-technical team members.

  • Experience with the Stage Gate process a plus.

  • High performing manager - encourages effective behavior to drive project success.

  • Influencer - develop and build effective relationships with team members who may not directly report to them.

  • Self-directed - confident and capable in ambiguous environments,

  • Problem structuring / resolution - seeks to understand the core of an issue before solving. Once understood, moves to resolve the issue in a timely and collaborative effort.

  • High business acumen - understands which levers impact a company's bottom line and which are proxies to success. Candidate can align resources accordingly.
