Position Purpose:
The Culinary Experience Manager, under the direction of the Health Services Administrator, is responsible for the overall operation of the Dining Services Program at the Deupree Cottages and serves as a part of the Deupree Cottages Leadership Team.
As a Culinary Experience Manager you can expect to:
  • Assists the Health Services Administrator in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Dining Services Program and its activities. Directs the program on a daily basis.
  • Plan menus within established policies, procedures, and regulations in collaboration with diet technician and dietitian to ensure residents’ nutritional needs are met.
  • Orders food/supplies and inventory stock as needed and permitted by storage space. Ensures that there are adequate food supplies on hand for all meals prior to the date needed. Supplements online food orders with supplies purchased locally.
  • Provides food preparation for lunch and dinner Monday-Friday and preparation for the following breakfast meal. Closely monitors food stock and food service to ensure proper procedures are followed at all times. Maintains clean and sanitary workstations, kitchens, storages areas and freezers/refrigerators.
  • Develops, monitors, and updates meal prep items and ensures team members have access to the information.
  • Identifies and documents resident preferences; collaborates with residents on meal suggestions and takes resident suggestions into consideration when meal planning.
  • Develops, helps lead, and documents programs designed for in-service education, on-the-job training, and orientation classes for team members.
  • Maintains current records that reflect department expenditures including food costs, inventory, meal counts, etc. Assists in the development and control of the department budget.
  • Interacts with residents by coordinating and hosting Food Committee and Culinary Life Enrichment experiences as well as attending Resident Council.
  • Collaborates with diet technician, dietician, and others to ensure special resident dietary needs are accommodated.
  • Assures that all Cottage team members perform their responsibilities following ERS’s expected behaviors and established policies and procedures at all times.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • May perform the duties of the Versatile Worker in the dining services area from time to time as needed and for checking quality of service, etc. within scope of practice. Participate in activities, culinary demonstrations, outdoor picnics, and special events as needed.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Cottage team members.
  • Serves as a member of the Deupree Cottages Leadership Team and participates in the Manager on Duty rotation.
  • Reports all incidents/accidents as established by department policies. Completes and files reports as directed.
  • Serves our residents with compassion and dignity while promoting Person Centered Care.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of a resident’s personal health and financial information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Adheres to all of ERS’s policies and procedures including our safety and Corporate Compliance programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possesses, as a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A culinary experience cooking in a professional capacity.
  • One (1) year dining services experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
  • ServSafe certified, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language.
  • Possesses the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Able to deal tactfully with team members, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Has knowledge of dining services procedures relative to retirement community operations.
  • Possesses leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional team members.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the essential functions of the position can be fully met.
  • Able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at time, hostile people within the community.
  • Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Does not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Has a valid driver’s license and auto insurance coverage.
  • Has basic computer skills to allow for completing job duties with email, word processing and basic excel.
  • Able to scale recipes requiring basic math skills to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Must be fully up-to-date with COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations.
