Position Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide driving services for the needs of residents as approved by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with ERS policies and procedures and applicable state motor vehicle laws
As a Part-Time Driver you can expect to:
  • Drives ERS vehicles on trips including, but not limited to, medical trips, grocery shopping, other shopping, pleasure trips, and ERS internal mail pick-up and delivery. All trips are scheduled by the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Drives ERS vehicles (sedans and thirty passenger buses), utilizing safe driving practices including the observance of all state highway laws.
  • Assists residents getting in and out of vehicles, maintaining safety procedures and ensuring resident clearance of closing doors. Performs proper wheelchair tie downs when applicable.
  • Maintains the appearance of ERS vehicles by exterior and interior cleaning.
  • Maintains ERS vehicles in excellent working condition by informing Transportation Supervisor when preventative maintenance is needed and when mechanical problems arise.
  • Reports incidents/accidents to the police and the supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Attends in-service education sessions and other meetings.
  • Provides back-up to office personnel during absences, as assigned.
  • Participates and assists in departmental studies and projects as directed and attends departmental and staff meetings as directed.
  • As an ERS team member, upholds the philosophy of Person Centered Care while performing duties; whenever possible acts to restore and/or provide Purpose, Choice and Freedom to our residents.
  • Cultivates effective and respectful relationships with residents, families, current and prospective staff.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to all customers in accordance with ERS’s expectations and values.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all current and prospective resident and staff information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Promote resident safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Possess a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. ODOT physical must be provided by an ERS approved provider.
  • Able to read, write, and understand the English language and speak the language in an understandable manner.
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Able to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, and the general public and to work harmoniously with other staff members.
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on the maturity level at which they are functioning.
  • Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Possess adequate sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Able to lift, move, or push an equivalence of fifty (50) or more pounds on a regular basis.
  • Willing to be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccination.

Drivers who do not have a CDL or who cannot pass the CDL physical at time of hire have 6 months to meet requirements for the CDL. ERS will pay for the initial CDL physical and one additional CDL physical. If the staff member does not meet the requirements for the CDL after 6 months, the staff member may be transferred to a position not requiring a CDL license if such a position is available and the staff member is qualified, or be terminated.
